Mr Toweesak Panchoo

Toweesak Panchoo:
FORRU Plant Station

How long have you worked for FORRU? 7 years

Why did you start working in conservation?
The job relates to studying flora. I love it.

What does FORRU Plant Station do? What does your job involve?
Co-ordinating with the community, government sectors and other agencies. Studying flora and the forest plant structure. Planning in planting the nursery trees and reforestation.

Why is replanting the forest important? I like my work to be about reforestation. If we destroy the forest we will have many problemsin the future - we are already seeing some of them.

What changes have you seen in the forest since you started working here? There is more forest area and less deforestation but a disappearance of many species of wildlife.

How long does it take to re-grow a logged area of forest?
We bring the nursery trees to plant in the forest and it takes 3-5 years to grow a strong framework or forest trees. From this forest will increase in a healthy way in future years.

Is it possible to ever make it as biodiverse as primary forest? With reforestation, we have to plant many kind of species in one plot, to imitate the primary forest. We get it as close as we can and let nature do the rest.

What do you see as the biggest threat to Khao Pra Bang Kram? Flash flooding in the wet season and in dry season, it's too dry, very dry and very hot like never before.
